Division exercises! Learn to split numbers into equal parts!
Division = reverse multiplication! 12÷4=? → 4×?=12 → answer is 3!
96 ÷ 3 in your head: split 96 into 90 + 6. 90 ÷ 3 = 30, 6 ÷ 3 = 2, add the results → 32. Breaking a number into convenient parts makes division easy.
Mental division rests on splitting the dividend into convenient parts that the divisor goes into evenly. 156÷12: think of 156 as 120+36, so 120÷12=10 and 36÷12=3 → 13. Some divisors have special shortcuts: dividing by 5 equals multiplying by 2 and then dividing by 10: 340÷5 = 680÷10 = 68. Every answer can be checked with the inverse operation: 13×12=156.
Division is the final exam of mental arithmetic: multiplication, subtraction and estimation all work at once. The skill of splitting into friendly parts then becomes the direct foundation for fractions, percentages and ratios.
